Search engines constantly check (spider)
the web for new or updated web pages. You can 'label' your website with
a description and keywords that assist search engines to categorise
your site. The description and keyword 'labels' are meta tags placed
inside the
<head></<head> tags.
The first meta tag - Description
- is a summarizing text description of your website. It should not be
more than 24 words long.
The second meta tag - Keywords
- lists keywords relevant to the content
of your site. it should be no
more than 500 characters long.
Here's an example:
<meta
name="Description" content="This is the official website of the
Ravenstone Skydiving Association">
<meta
name="Keywords" content="Skydiving, Ravenstone, Ravenstone Skydiving
Association, skydiving club">
Note that with the above example,
anyone entering "Ravenstone Skydiving Association" into a search engine
would be likely to find this web page easily, particularly if
Ravenstone Skydiving Association appears repeatedly in the website
content.
In the case of the affiliate marketing, the affiliate will be in fierce competition with
competitors and will not
achieve a high search rank without attention to all the factors which
imporve search rank. Our ebook, Successful Affiliates Guide,
lexplains how to address these factors.
Google ignores the keywords meta tag but it
remains important for most other search engines. The keywords presented
withitn the content of the page should also appear in both these meta
tags.
