A
niche market is a section of a larger market that can be specifically
targeted for marketing purposes. For
example, women's car insurance.
The advantage of niche markets is that they are less competitive. Of
course, as you can imagine, women's car insurance is still a very
competitive market, just not so competitive as car insurance in
general. An affiliate may choose to
target a smaller niche - for
example, women over 25.
Another approach to niche marketing is to find new and fresh angles in
terms of relevant and useful information to provide on your website,
that are not provided on your competitors' sites. That way you can draw
in visitors via your niche information approach even when your sales
relate to a more generic market.
As an affiliate, a niche market approach is the most effective. It is
not realistic to take on the huge companies head on for highly
competitive general markets, eg car insurance.
Even although there are a lot of affiliates that have already exploited
niche markets, if you research your market sector, it is likely that
you will see an area where you can do something a bit different. There
is, of course, a balance between over-specialisation and maintaining a
reasonable-sized market.
How to turn this idea into an effective affiliate campaign involves
several stages of activity relating to effective affiliate marketing
strategies along with website
optimization and search
engine
optimization.
