The most important type of website
optimization is for search engines whereby search rank for specific
keywords is enhanced by search
engine
optimization (SEO) interventions.
Website optimization needs to be coupled with 'off-site' search engine
optimization strategies. While the latter are actually of greater
importance, they rely on an effectively optimized website for full
impact.
So what does website optimization involve? A great deal, in fact,
including:
- keyword density around 4%
- keywords in title, URLs, meta tags
- using the right keywords on each page
- adequate number of
pages - at least 30, much more is
better
- regular updating with new relevant content
- relevant links only
- minimal reciprocal linking

off-site SEO, you can consult our ebook, Successful Affiliates Guide, the
complete guide to affiliate marketing.
Inspection of successful company websites' HTML coding reveals that the
vast majority do not make optimal use of, for example, the
'description' meta tags on their webpages. They tend to be better at
keyword density for their home page but many do not take the
opportunity to optimize every
page for relevant keywords. There are also some missed opportunites in
terms of file and folder names.
Perhaps the problem is that because these commercial sites are often
developed by web designers rather than agencies with a search engine
optimization agenda, that the 'look' of the site is allowed to take
precedence over maximal website optimization design.
Affiliates work in
the most competitive markets of all. They cannot
afford to make these mistakes.
